The Requirements
Our goal is both to produce a beautiful magazine as well as to bring new artists into the world of print, showcasing them to a new audience in a beautiful, curated manner. To maximize reach, appeal and quality, we bring a mix of 2 or 3 more established photographers and 4-5 lesser known artists. While there is no requirement in terms of followers or reach in this second category, we do have a high requirement for quality. What is most important to us is that you have some vision or style that is recognizable and your own, yet tying in with the identity of the magazine: less documentarian, and more painterly street photography.
The Process
Initially, we will have a look at your instagram or other media platforms where you share work. While not ideal for presentation, it suffices to give us some idea of what kind of work you produce and who you are as a photographer. We will get back to you with feedback: whether we select you or not, you will always receive our reasons why or why not. Being rejected for now does not mean the end of the road: hopefully our feedback is productive, but it is also an option that your work is perfect but just not compatible with our vision. At worst, you will have gotten a portfolio review for free!
After initial selection, we will contact you for a more in depth look at your portfolio, exploring the narrative themes and visual elements of your work. Together, we are going to talk through what the best way would be to present your work. We provide help both in selection of images and the writing of your bio, but place an emphasis on your identity and vision: ultimately, it is most important that you end up with a magazine that you can proudly show to people as a means of introducing you and your work.
The Result
As one of our featured artists, you will receive a free copy of your magazine. Apart from a feeling of pride holding a gorgeous physical magazine with you work, you will also get valuable exposure. Those who buy the magazine will have spent money to look at your work, and they will see it in print, in an order and style of presentation that is meant to encourage multiple viewings and a slow appreciation. Furthermore, we use all profits to further develop the magazine and print out extra copies of the magazine to send out to important people in the creative industry as well as gallerists and curators. You will also have built experience in the edit and selection process.
